PRESENTATION IS EVERYTHING
THE IMPORTANCE OF WRITING A GOOD RESUME
BY. Chasity D' Chapel
One of the ways I use my #skills and expertise to help others is #resume building and #job #search. Because of life's little issues in the past, I found out that I was very good at searching and obtaining #employment for myself, ( I just did not use to stay employed very long). I added that personal piece of information to give you insight on how job search became not only a hobby, but I turned into a business.
I created a fan page on social media and periodically, I will post employment opportunities. I have been creating and updating resumes since 2002. I had previous employment an Employment Service Specialist. I ran the front office of a Welfare To Work #program. I felt privileged to talk to clients and personify their talents. I didn't even realize what I was doing...
PURPOSE OF THIS ARTICLE
In the past few weeks, I have taken on several clients who are in the job market and needed assistance with their resume. Out of ten clients, three of them required no assistance, their resume was set to go, given the field they were seeking. Two of the clients had never had a resume. The remaining five had minor errors in my opinion, but to a recruiter's eye, would be considered a "pet peeve." I want to share a few with you along with a few others I came across on https://www.monster.com/
********5 COMMON JOB RECRUITER'S PET PEEVE*******
1. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION IS UP TO DATE AND CORRECT-How can they contact you if they can't find you?
2. HIGHLIGHT YOUR JOB DUTIES-Recruiters want to see exactly what it is you can do for them. What makes you an asset to their organization? They go through tons of applications and resumes when searching for candidates.... MAKE YOUR RESUME STAND OUT
3. KEEP IT CUTE, NOT BUSY-Be consistent. If you choose to use the asterisk(*), don't switch up and use the bullets... Yes, little things like that counts.
4. SPELLCHECK- Think about it, why would they hire you and it appears you can't spell? Not when resumes are done on computers and there is a spell check. It shows laziness and a lack of respect to take the time to show them that you are ready to work and to take the job seriously.
5. NOT TOO LONG, NOT TOO SHORT-You don''t have to write a book, but allow to be longer than a sentence. Objective, Skills, Employment History, Education, Certifications.... Real Simple
